Your believing the issue is the Router, but the Router isn't the MODEM that connects your service. WHAT sort of SERVICE is this your getting? DSL? Cable?

Secondly Wifi 'speed' has nothing to do with 'Internet' connection speed, or vice versa. Wifi just means, without wires, nothing more. So WIRED or WIRELESS will get the 'max speed' between computer A and computer B in your house over the router (NO INTERNET talking here, just A can share files...

So WIRED or WIRELESS will get the 'max speed' between computer A and computer B in your house over the router (NO INTERNET talking here, just A can share files with B for example).

Third, the way your wording it makes it sound like you have BOTH a WIRED connection AND Wireless connection ON THE SAME PC to the ROUTER. This confuses Windows, it doesn't know "WHO" is talking, and will not give you 'more speed' but actually slow you down (hence your concerns). You need to decide, do you want to use wireless OR wired, and stick to just the ONE being used. Then we can move on to the next thing.
