I've tried looking through various other posts but no-one seems to quite have the same issue, or they have a working solution which has not worked for me. Recently my PC which has run successfully for several years suddenly stopped working properly. While browsing, the computer suddenly made a device disconnected sound, and the screen went black.

After restarting the PC, POST is always successful, but the monitor loses signal after the windows loading screen and freezes, I am unable to even shut down without forcing reset. However, to further make things interesting, if I instruct the system agent in bios to use the iGPU, the system boots without issue, leading me to suspect a GPU issue, though I'm confused as the POST never indicates any problems. A friend says he suspects possibly issue with the north bridge, but this doesn't seem correct to me, as I understand Ivy-Bridge CPU have all north bridge functions integrated in the CPU and I would figure a CPU test would detect if this is a problem.

Things I've tried/observed so far to figure out if there are issues:
- Temperatures are all good
- Power supply is supplying correct voltages, and should have plenty of capacity for this rig.
- Memtest86 revealed no errors during full test, though did note some memory is vulnerable to high frequency hammer (?)
- CPU test revealed no problems and prime runs without any issues, and without reaching unreasonable temps
- I have cleared all drivers for the GPU using DDU, and the system still fails to boot using the default windows driver as well as the latest GPU driver which I reinstalled.
- Sometimes running programs off the iGPU causes the system to hang, even though they are not intensive programs.
- Completely removing the GPU also allows the system to boot without issue
- The wireless card also uses a PCI slot (Small slot) which appears to be working with no problems.

If anyone has any advice which could help me locate the source of the problem it would be a big help.

Although it would be ideal, I do not have another motherboard I can try to plug the GPU into to test, but could probably ask at a pc repair center if necessary.

My system specs are:
Intel I7-3770k @ 4.2 ghz
Corsair H100 Water Cooler
Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard
32GB DDR3 Ram @ 2400 MHZ
Nvidia GTX 690
Samsung EVO SSD
Corsair 1200AX PSU
