I have a samsung evo 500 gb ssd. im trying to clone my old ssd to this new one. i initially tried macrium at first due to some advice from a moderator here. macrium couldnt find the samsung ssd, so i just said screw it and went with the built in software from samsung to migrate. problem is, its copying at 1-2 mb. says it will take 7 hours.

would macrium be faster? is there something i can do to make macrium recognize the samsung ssd?

one thing that could possibly be an issue, im not sure, but im using the SATA cable that i had a hdd plugged in to. this is now plugged in to my new samsung ssd. is that a big deal? i know there are different SATA cable types.

Solution
Macrium should have found the drive.
SATA cable type does not matter
It should not take 7 hours.

There is something else going on.

Possibly a faulty cable, or port on the motherboard.
Install Samsung Magician to test the performance of both SSD's. If it's a SATA3/6gbps SATA connection you should be getting 500MBps+ sequential read/writes give or take (it varies by controller).

It's possible you have a bad SATA data cable.

UPDATE:
Just FYI, but if you use "RAPID MODE" from Samsung Magician than the benchmark numbers will be way too high. Anyway, if one SSD is way too low then try to shut down and swap to a different cable first.

alright thanks for the replies. Is it ok for me to cancel the data migration even though its at 5%? I will try the magician software to see the performance and I will also try plugging into a different port on the MB. I actually recently changed the port it was plugged into so maybe it is the port.

edit: just to clarify, macrium did see the samsung ssd when i went to clone it initially. when i picked samsung ssd as destination, it showed as 480gb. but when i clicked clone, in red letters it said disk not found or something.

its not appearing in the start menu under "computer." do i have to do something to make that appear there, or should it be there automatically if it is connected to the motherboard and power supply

edit 2: yeah i never initialzed the disk in disk manager. im still getting hung up on macrium though. it sees the disk now, but its just halted in its progress. ill try to troubleshoot with plugging to different ports or replacing the SATA and make a new thread if need be
