hi guys i have a ASUS UX51VZ 17" ultrabook. it has an i7-3612QM cpu at 2.1 ghz
i currently have a nvidia 650m gt 2gb card. my graphics is getting old and i wanted to look into giving it a possible upgrade so i can play games on the go. i have ddr3 and it came out around 2012 if that helps. i also have 8 gb of ram, 4 gb is soldered and i wanted to upgrade the other 4gb stick to 8gb. any recommendations for a manufacturer? i dont know much about upgrading ultrabooks

Solution
Yep.
Also, I don't know if I would upgrade the memory either. It's probably in DUAL CHANNEL but if you add a different size you'll end up with SINGLE CHANNEL. You need two, IDENTICAL sticks for dual channel (so with one soldered it has to be the same size).

There's not much need really for more than 8GB unless you keep being told you're running out of system memory. If you game it's fine provided you don't have other programs like CHROME that use a lot of memory running at the same time.

My advice is leave it alone, and concentrate on simply TWEAKING the games for the best experience (and avoid games that may be too much for your specs).

The honest truth is you live with it or buy a new laptop. I would tweak startup programs(msconfig), remove any unneeded software, etc but I wouldn't even think of upgrading. You might watch our for AMD Ryzen/Vega based laptops in the near future, I'm not certain yet but they should give a large bump in performance.
