Is cutting ram and storage a bad idea?

I can get 16 gb of ddr4 2400mhz and a 240gb ssd. However, in doing this I would have no leftover cash and this is my first pc build. Would it be bad to only buy 8gb of ram and a 120gb ssd. (All I plan to do is gaming I and I just want the OS on the SSD). Is the 16gb of ram worth it? Also, is a 120gb ssd enough?

Solution
If you can afford it, yes. Having 8GB of RAM will have almost no negative impact but it is really hard to manage keeping everything under 120GB even for an OS drive. Its not that a 128GB OS drive isn't doable its just tough and a pain in the arse to manage. Many of us have done it and I don't recommend it.
