Hi all,

as the title says I have made sure to research a bit and try to calculate the PSU wattage manually, but that proved too confusing to me so I used the recommended PSU calculator on the sticky:

https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

and the following are my specs that I plugged into the calculator:

i5 7600k
Nvidia 1080ti
2x4GB DDR4
Samsung 250gb SSD
BarraCuda 2TB 7200 rom HDD
Gaming Keyboard/Gaming Mouse
5x120mm LED fans
27" LED Monitor

It calculated a wattage of 487W but recommended a 750W PSU: http://imgur.com/jzMUWVX

now I understand that you should have a bit of "cushion" room when it comes for PSU, but I didnt know I needed that much of a cushion.

So then I decided to tinker with ONE of the variables, which was removing the LED strip, which yielded this new calculation of 484W and recommended a 650W PSU: http://imgur.com/yDIKvdn

I have no idea how adding an LED strip that increases the wattage by 3W increase justifies upgrading to a PSU that has 100W more??!

Now with all of that being said, I currently have already installed a 650W Corsair CX 650M 80plus bronze PSU... I am aware that its not a great quality PSU, but what are your guys' opinions and in light of what the calculator recommended for me, should I keep my current PSU or upgrade?

Sorry for the wall of text, just know that you are greatly helping a random guy in need!

cheers

Solution
That's software/algorithmic issue you are hitting...
It will be calculating the suggested wattage as "nearest higher wattage to required wattage/0.75" (an example)... those 3 insignificant watts just got you over the threshold set.

So would you say that since even without the LED strip I sitting right on the border, that I should go for a 750W PSU instead of my current 650W PSU?

Nope, exact opposite, those 3W make no difference, 650W is fine.
