Hello,
I have had this problem for about 2 years now so the idea of it possibly being hardware failure is confusing to me. I have also done various steps to try and eliminate certain things.

SYMPTOMS
When I am working on photoshop and watching a film/youtube the computer can sometimes at random freeze and not unfreeze. The only way to unfreeze is to hold in the power button for 10 seconds. This can also happen while playing video games and even when just using photoshop and listening to spotify.

These symptoms have become worse where it is happening about twice a day, rather than just a few days a week. Another thing that has started happening is the fans and LED's will not start-up except for the CPU fan and 'noises' happening to show its starting up. But nothing comes on screen. The fix for this was to reseat all the hardware connectors. Another time it was to unplug everything and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

Things I have tried to fix it:
Changed from Windows 7 to a clean install of windows 10 (no fix)
Changed graphics card (no fix)
Changed Power supply (no fix)
Changed themal paste on CPU (no fix)
Added a bigger fan on cpu (no fix)
Updated all drivers except for bios (no fix)
Installed all windows updates and chip-sets.
Ran memory diagnostics and come back with no errors

The PC runs fine and can play all the latest games at best settings. But whatever is happening just happens randomly and with no prior symptoms. It's as if something just chokes and then freezes everything in place to avoid damage.

No idea where to post this so added it to Components section.

Here is the first part to my DXDIAG:

Solution

Usually the random shut downs are a PSU issue but since you changed all the surrounding components the only thing left is the MOBO, run diagnostics in bios for possible errors. It's a phantom issue

Is there any way to run some tests to find out this is the cause? Don't want to be wasting cash on a new motherboard if it continues afterwards...

Its not a random shut-down. The screen and sound freezes and the only way to use the computer again is by manually shutting it down.

The board is about 5 years old now so out of warranty. I was thinking it could have been an hdd failure but that too has no errors or symptoms.

I am running an extended windows memory diag tool test to see if it picks anything up.

This issue actuallu could have been going on for nearly 4 years! So i have no idea of the cause lol

The IT guy said if all components (RAM, hdd, gpu, psu, CPU) work perfect on a different or new motherboard (if tested) then its the old board. It can be any small issue with the board that can make it behave in that manner
