Can I use Dual monitors on 144hz with this processor and GPU. If so what input cords?

Hi all,

I have a new PC Build
-Ryzen 1600x overclocked to 4 Ghz 2663 DDR4
- MSI GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GTX 1060 3GT OC 3GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready ATX Video Card

Here is the link to my GPU
http://www.outletpc.com/zs8841-msi-geforce-gtx-1060-3gt-oc-3gb-directx-12-192bit.html

It only has 1 HDMI input a DVI input, the specs are listed in the link above.

I want to run two 144Hz Monitors on 1080p with an extended desktop display (not the same display on both monitors). Is this possible with this GPU & my processor? If so what cords and inputs should I use for monitors to GPU? Thank you!

If you wanna game on a single 1080 144hz. Yes, you can.
However, if you will get 144fps @1080p with your 3GB GTX1060, this is still another Story.
It depends on the game and the settings you are using.
I do not think you can run 1080p Destiny 2 on 144 fps with your GTX1060. :D
I do not know how much you will get tho'.

BTW, you do not need 144hz for your secondary monitor, you can get the usually cheaper 60hz.
No it's not. The 1060 is made for 1080p/60Hz gaming normally and not 3840 x 1080 resolution @ 144Hz. For that resolution and that refresh rate I would recommend a 1080 if you aim at ultra settings and a 1070 for high settings.

Edit: I just saw that you have the 3GB version of the 1060. That is even worse . You need better GPU if you aim even for 1 monitor with 144Hz

For basic usage, yes this is possible. For gaming at high refresh rate, that video card may not have enough horsepower or vram to really do it. From what I've read, 1080p at 120 or 144hz the sweetspot video card is the GTX 1070. Like I said it will work, but you'll probably have to turn down some of the video settings in games in order to not have lag/stutter on your video.

1. You can connect any Monitor with any refresh rate with your GTX1060, as long as you are using the correct Connection e.g. DP, HDMI 1.4 or higher. For daily work, this is not an issue.

2. Gaming on 2 Monitors? I do not think nVidia surround works officially on 2 Monitors. I heard, There should be hacks to make nVidia surround to work on 2 Monitors but nevertheless there is no guarantee that it would work without issues.
nVidia surround should work on 3 and 5.
Moreover, even if it did work, the Center of your game will exactly on where the 2 Monitor bezels meet, this is not exactly good.

3. Assuming you could get the game to work on 2 Monitors, getting 144 fps @2x1080p is another Story. it depends on the games and the Settings. For new heavy AAA games, GTX1060 is not strong enough.

Thank you for the reply, is there any relation with the refresh rate and resolution? What I am ultimately trying to do is game on one monitor 144Hz 1080P (Desinty 2) and on the other monitor be able to work/surf web, so technically I guess the second monitor does not need to be 144Hz.

Can this GPU handle this?

Thank you sir! I mislead the question. I am going to be gaming on one monitor and the other monitor want to browse the web. so technically I only need one monitor with high settings. Will this work?

no

for 1080p 144hz you want minimum a gtx 1070

if you are not using the second monitor to game then there is no impact in performance or issues running it in 144 hz
