Hello all, I just sold my good old 690 and wanted to know which card would be the best for a slight upgrade. I do not want to spend $500+ on a 1080, so something cheaper, approx $200-300 would be awesome. I also bought the oculus rift, so I want something thats compatible and can run vr pretty well. I will include my pc parts list link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MDFZ2R

I was looking toward MSI 1060 GB, but I am not sure, all inputs are greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.

The CSGO is no problem pushing high fps even on a GTX 1060, but, for other AAA games (such as GTA V), you'd definitely benefit from having a GTX 1070/1080, esp. with your graphics settings set on Ultra and you want seamless gameplay.

For best price/performance, get the GTX 1070 over the 1080 as you have a limited budget.

I would suggest get the cheapest GTX 1070 with dual fans that you can afford. All of the other GTX 1070s, when compared amongst each other, would have roughly the same graphics performance output (since most models are only factory-overclocked to a very minimal amount of MHz). The main differences are: 1) branding, 2) noise/thermal dissipation, 3) spatial clearance in your case/size, and 4) physical...
If you can stretch it, the GTX 1070 will offer a much better VR experience, but if you can't afford it, the GTX 1060 6 GB will work as well, but your VR experience might get a little bit affected. If that's fine by you, a GTX 1060 6 GB is fine. Don't get the 3 GB version, it's slower.

As for the GTX 1070, I recommend that for VR since your experience will be spoiled if your GPU is not able to put out a stable FPS. The 1060 can do that, but not as well as the 1070(duh). So if you want a seamless experience, and can push your budget, get a GTX 1070 - even a Zotac Mini variant will be enough - the coolers are capable.

Know that the GTX 1060 wouldn't stop you from VR - it'll just spoil the fun because you might experience frame drops, which can cause dizziness and other issues, which really isn't something you want while gaming.

Definitely get a GTX 1070 or a GTX 1080, esp. that you are using a 1080p/144Hz monitor and plan to do VR. If budget is restricted as you said, the GTX 1060 6GB is also a viable option (but might not be a good pair, depending on the games and your in-game graphics settings, on a 144Hz monitor). All of the aforementioned GPUs will work with your already-capable/powerful i5-4690K (as well as your current 750W PSU).

The GTX 1070 will allow your AAA games at Ultra at a ~100-ish fps, while your GTX 1080 at same settings closer to that ~140 fps. The GTX 1060, on the other hand, is an ideal GPU for 1080p/~60Hz gaming. Some games that are not graphic-intensive can go past beyond 75fps, but on AAA games with max. settings, the GTX 1060 will struggle to reach your monitor's max. capabilities.

Going from a GTX 690 and on to a GTX 1060 6GB is a ~40% increase in performance: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB-vs-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-690-SLI-Disabled/3639vsm8241
Going from a GTX 690 to a GTX 1070 is a 100% increase in performance: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1070-vs-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-690-SLI-Disabled/3609vsm8241
Going from a GTX 690 to a GTX 1080 is a ~160% increase in performance: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1080-vs-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-690-SLI-Disabled/3603vsm8241

The games I play are CSGO, GTA V, rocket league and such, mostly from steam and fifa. I love the 144hz and like it super seamless. I can definitely push the budget to get a 1070/1080 since I hate frame shutter and lag. If i do get a 1070/80 which would be better. I would go with the 1070 for now, should i get evga, msi or any others? Thank for all the inputs.

If you have no qualms about the factors listed above, and you are looking at bang-for-the-buck GTX 1070, then I would suggest, in order of price:

MSI - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card ($380.89 @ SuperBiiz)

or

Asus - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Dual Series Video Card ($394.99 @ SuperBiiz)

or

EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition Video Card ($407.99 @ SuperBiiz)
