Externally formatting m2 SSD via Adapter

I currently have an m2 SSD in my build. I recently got two m2 SSD's that I simply need to format and return to a friend. I purchased an adapter for these drives. Upon connecting the SSD via USB adapter, I see the drive appear under disk management. However, it displays storage as 0mb and will not allow me to even open it to look inside. Any ideas on what could be the issue?

Tthey are PCIe NVMe drives. I have been checking pretty regularly and there doesn't appear to be any USB to PCIe M.2 devices out there. What you have will only work with SATA drives in the M.2 form factor.

Basically you need a laptop or desktop with a PCIe NVMe slot to deal with them for now.
