So, couple days ago, my computer had stopped working and I had never backed up the data on it. This PC is running a Intel Pentium D and Windows XP. So I pulled out the hard drive and put it into my Intel Pentium 4 Machine which is running Windows 7. I started up my computer and I accidentally booted up from the hard drive I had pulled out. It tried to boot Windows but it failed and so I shut down my computer. And on my windows 7 machine, when it would boot up, it would show the processor model. In my case, Intel Pentium 4HT and after I restarted my computer from booting up Windows XP, it now shows Intel Pentium D. Even Windows 7 now shows Intel Pentium D. I know for a fact that there is a Pentium 4HT chip in my pc. Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks,
Randy

wow ... I think I understand what you are saying. Windows XP and Window 7 Write drivers for the chipset. So swapping a hard and booting will corrupt the install of Windows. So as a fix, I would install the chip set drivers. But you might have to reinstall Windows
