So I'm buying a new gtx 1070 ftw, which requires x2 8 pin connectors, but all I have is a (6+2) and a (6). I have a thermaltake 500w psu, which I plan on upgrading asap. Can I just plug the 6 pin into 1 of the & pin connectors. This will only be for 2 weeks or so? I probably won't do anything too graphic intensive.

It will not damage your card for sure. The difference is that the connector with 8 pin just let's you deliver more power to the gpu. Other than that you are safe. Just don't overclock and don't play very intensive titles like the witcher 3 at 4k and you are good to go. :)

The EVGA 1070 should come with an adapter which should solve your problem if you have some free molex connections. You also can install just a 6 pin into the secondary 8 pin. It will then have access to 75W+75W+150W.

The EVGA G2 550 or 650 are two appropriate PSUs with Gold efficiency ratings.

The Vivo 24K 650W is a sorta new. It hasn't been in the higher end PSU market for all that long. In that short time it has received some pretty good marks from the likes of JohnnyGuru and one or two other bigger review sites and is another recommendation of mine. The Vivo is my choice for my upcoming Vive + 1080Ti purchase.

I cut them some slack :D. Every two weeks is a normal time between paychecks. Fortunately they understand what you said and they said they will be upgrading asap. They have done the right thing by coming here for some advice.

I hope it's 2 weeks and not or so.
