Hello! I'm going to be attempting my very first PC build (with the help of someone who has built several, so don't panic) and I'd like to know if these components https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/722dTH are good or if they could be swapped out for better options.

I'll be using the build mostly for 4K video editing and gaming, and I'd like to keep the build closer to 2000 CAD. The monitor is a placeholder, so feel free to recommend decent 4K options as well please!

Thanks in advance.

Looks like some solid parts, similar to my build :)

Is the 960 Samsung EVO much more expensive? If your video editing takes lots of space, check the price on 512GB 840 EVO (or research other options, there is one 512GB drive priced very attractively, name escapes me for the moment).

For the sake of video editing I wouldn't downgrade the CPU. You could get more power for gaming by going up one notch in the GPU, or waiting for Vega (2+ months).

Case is very solid. Does the case come with 2 fans? You can add a third high quality fan if you like for better cooling/lower noise (but unnecessary esp. if you go with the GTX1060 I'd think).

Sadly it seems you can't get a decent keyboard for much under $100. Even those have a hard time...

The ryzen CPU comes with a fairly decent cooler so if you don't want to do a hefty overclock you can drop the 212 evo. Also spending nearly $200 on a mouse and keyboard isn't really necessary, you can spend half that much and still have a great time. Also dropping the cooler and getting cheaper peripherals could mean you can afford a gtx 1070.

Thanks @Agathor! I've seen some of the Ryzens come with the Wraith cooler but I don't think 1600 does. That said, should I get the 1500 instead? Also, I heard there were some issues with Corsair RAM and the Ryzens. Has that been fixed?

The 1600 does come with a cooler, it's the 1600x that doesnt. Also I've heard ram support has increased a lot and if you update the uefi then it should be fine. If you don't want to risk it though graphics some gskill I know they work well with ryzen.
You could get the 1500 but I find the 6 cores to be a major draw of ryzen 5.
