Hi, I'm researching a quiet, efficient PC build for mostly audio production that can handle recording 8-16 channels at once into my DAW, plus VST Midi and plugins.

First, I was looking at AMD ASRock AB350 / AM4 Ryzen 5 Processor, but the more research I did, it seemed overkill for me (if there was such a thing). Will an AM3 / AM3+, or FM2+ be sufficient?

Basically I'd like something with 16gb minimum ddr4, with a processor close to 4.0, and some usb ports for external drives, midi controller, etc, and good to handle a gpu when I'm ready to upgrade..

Any help would be awesome! Thanks

If youa re going the AMD route, AM4 should be the only socket you look into. If you want a lot of ports, you could consider getting a USB hub 3.0. Do you already have the equipment?

I also think getting the Ryzen 5 1600 will probably be best for you as it can handle heavy loads quite easily. Then throwing in a GPU for gaming will put it all together.

Not sure of your budget, this build should meet your needs, and then some. Also, you can change the case out if you wanted to, maybe something like a S340 from NZXT, depending on what form factor you want.

Awesome! Thanks :)
The info looks very similar to what I found. I have external drives, monitor etc, but the tower will be from scratch.
I was hoping to stay between $500-$600, without cutting too many corners so this may be the best path. I was just getting confused with compatibility and if there were more/less options with AM3 & FM2. Your list REALLY helps!

Anything from cod, civilization, survival horror, open world, or online play. It'd be fun to keep up online at a decent rate without issues. I've been mostly on a laptop for 10 years and a ps3. Don't get me wrong, bc I love gaming, but getting the music studio gear figured out is my #1. What is a standard video card that would get the job done would you say?
Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Well since gaming is number 2 on your list, you can possibly downgrade toa GTX 1050 Ti and save $100. Howevr, you probably want a big monitor (over 24") for that editing space. So when gaming, the pixels may look a little funny, but it's still gaming.
