I recently bought 2x8gb sticks of ram, to add to my pre-existing 2x4gb (should be total of 24gb right?). It only shows the 2x8gb now for a total of 16gb in my system properties. What gives?

What make and model is your motherboard?

Be as specific as you can.

I will take a look at the motherboard specs and see what they may reveal.

Otherwise any immediate explanation is more likely to be incorrect and not at all helpful per se.

Look at the motherboard memory specifications and User Guide/Manual.

There should be some very specific information about the accepted memory configurations. Order of slots being filled. How the modules are paired. Where the fastest modules should be located. May require some matching BIOS setting.

Some memory module combinations will work and other combinations will not work or any "extra" memory may just be ignored.

Confirm that you have a valid installation. Then verify that the existing modules are all correctly and fully seated.

Check the BIOS settings. You may need to configure some memory settings therein.

You're gonna have to explain this to me like i'm 5. I did go through the BIOS and such and it showed all 4 were there but only 16gb available, I hadn't touched the 2x4gb that were there prior so I'm unsure why they would suddenly stop working.
