I have a ASUS GL552J and one day after waking it up from sleep a very fine line appeared near the top of the screen. But it's only on the desktop.

If I hover my mouse over it or open a window the line is covered up. The line persists even after I change backgrounds and it reappears shortly when I tried changing resolution. When I plugged in an external monitor the line does not appear on the second monitor.

I need expert help before I do anything.

Yes I changed backgrounds but it persists. Update though: the line has become noticeably fainter now and I don't know if its my eyes playing tricks on me but the line seems to be disappearing and reappearing.

Another thing I should mention is I have a habit of putting my laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down.

The line is faint enough that it's barely visible and if I run any app it's completely covered up so I could live with it. But what concerns me is what caused it in the first place and what it entails for the future longevity of my laptop. Even if the worse comes to pass I can hook up a monitor to my laptop.

But I'm curious; is it a hardware or software issue? I'm a total tech noob but if the screen itself is damaged wouldn't the line also appear over opened windows? Currently it only appears on the desktop and in the start menu.

It's position remains fixed even after fiddling with the resolution. Roughly a little over 1cm from the top of the screen. So it's hardware then.

But it gets covered up if I drag a window or even just right-click the desktop over it - is that expected?

Also the line is visible if I play games fullscreen, dunno if that's relevant but I'm throwing out everything I know just in case.

That cinches it, looks like it is indeed the LCD panel. It's super fine and almost invisible in some colours but it's definitely there.

What do you think could be the possible cause of this? My laptop is barely two years old and is rarely moved from its desk.

They are all pretty fragile.

I have 4 old M405 Toshibas still going ... we use them for Freelancer gaming.

My newer Toshy is an i5 and the screen is much lighter.

Newer and thinner screen mounts ... more fragile I guess.

If it is no real hassle I would persevere with it.

Mine is not an ROG though I also have an older Alienware 17 which is a beast of a tank (heavy).

Lasts a full 15 minutes on battery gaming !!

:)

An ultra thin line that's only noticeable if I actively look for it is infinitely more bearable than the two dead bugs inside my screen - and that's discounting the several micro dust specks that like the bugs somehow magically found their way to where they are.

Alongside with a plethora of other issues I've had with this GL552J I swear it's probably defective.

Regardless, thanks for the help.

I have the same ASUS GL552J and I have the same problem now. But in my laptop the lines are at bottom of the screen.

Note: My laptop is also two years old.

First there was one line but after 1 month now there is two. Dont know how to fix this issue and currently I am too much worried about this issue. If u found any solution, kindly please tell me :).

Thank you !
