I've got a computer with Windows Vista currently installed. I'm looking to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, and a lot of websites that sell the Windows 7 disc/key or digital download w/key indicate I've got to do a "clean install" first. I'm assuming that means I've got to wipe the computer clean, which isn't a problem.

My problem is figuring out how to do it. First, should I buy a digital Windows 7 key or should I buy an actual disc? I do NOT have the original Windows Vista disc from years ago. I did a backup of the entire computer onto an external hard drive, but I have no idea how I'd reinstall it if something went drastically wrong. Would something like this (https://www.bonanza.com/listings/Microsoft-Windows-7-Pro-Professional-SP1-32-64-bit-Software-Key-Disc/466760737) work for what I need? If so, can someone help walk me through the process?

Win 7 Pro for $12 is not legit.
