Woah, last time I bought a GPU was when the GTX 660 was released for $200,

Then I got married and sold my gaming pc, cuz you know, life and money,

So now I wanted to put up a new Gaming PC with a Ryzen 5 (everything good there 12 threads for $200 ish dollars and I remember buying an i5 with 4 cores for the same price back in the day) and either a RX 580 or GTX 1060 (the equivalent of a GTX 660 now I guess?) and both are insanely overpriced. Any idea why? Is there any GPU Shortage I have not heard of?

Thanks,

The RX 580s are pretty much constantly out of stock and are now going for 400-500 dollars due to this latest digital gold rush. If you really want an AMD card, you're probably going to have to wait for Ethereum to crash, then the used market is going to be flooded with AMD cards.
crypto currency miners have bought up all the AMD stock which now forces everyone to buy an Nvidia card. Though the Nvidia price rise is mild compared to the doubling of AMD prices.

Please note the avg price for these cards before all this was not $200 unless you were looking only at the half VRAM models and even then most of them were always over $200.

There is literally no GPU available, I refuse to pay $260ish for the 1060 when an RX 580 is $200, I guess i will have to wait and see

Thanks, maybe ryzen 3 will be out by then and i can save a little bit more.
