Hi, I have Amd Phenom2 X4 965 black edition processor fitted to gigabyte motherboard. It's stock clock speed is 3400mhz but it can be overclocked upto 4000mhz. I have increased the clock speed to 3800 mhz keeping the cpu frequency as it was,200 mhz, by default. I have set the multiplier to *19,so that 19*200=3800.That's how the calculations goes. But i am confused about the amount of cpu voltage required . By default it is 1.45v.How much shall i increase? The values in the bios list are +0.025v, +0.075 +0. 100v and so on..Pls help. Does overclocking harms the cpu?

Solution
okay, so you want to OC up to 3.8 and you have the multiplier giving you exactly that. Next, you want to try booting it up. If it boots, run a stress test like Prime95. If it can run that for a few hours, congratulations!

More than likely, though, it won't even boot. So go back into the bios, and bump up the voltage in the smallest increment you can. so .025v. Now try to boot and stress test again.

Repeat until you either:
A. reach too high a temperature to continue
B. Get frustrated by constant instability issues
or C. you run a stress test for at least 2 hours, temps are good the whole time, and you have no crashes or failures of any kind, Congratulations again!

Done that @KaptainKuftic.Many thanx for your help. System is stable at 1.7v. One more thing .Does Overclocking harms the CPU in some way in due course of time ? Do you have idea about Graphics card overclocking? I have MSI NVidia 1060 6gb gaming x graphics card. Along with it came a software named MSI Afterburner which is used for overclocking. What Values shall I keep there in order to OC it to 1800+mhz..

Uhh, you might want to be careful with that. 1.7v is pretty high, make absolutely sure your temperatures are below 95c to consider that stable.

overclocking does decrease lifespan of chips, usually not by enough to matter unless you're really pushing it (again check those temps).

All GPUs are going to overclock differently. Use the same procedure as your CPU to OC your GPU
