so i im trying to install a AMD Radeon HD7470 1GB card but when i install it the screen is just black but the gpu and cpu fan are spinning, any tips? thanks

Solution

It looks like the GPU or the GPU driver problem, because your Dell...
Which dell pc did you have? 1) 1st try use the onboard iGPU if your dell pc has one. Boot into the BIOS, in graphics section, set the option to either auto or pcie, or disable the onboard iGPU, save and exit. Reboot the PC. 2) maybe the PSU has lower power to power the hd7470. 3) you may need to update the BIOS for the hd 7470. 4) If the dell pc is too old, the gpu may not be compatible to that dell pc.

Hi, the motherboard is a Dell Vostro 260 motherboard model:0GDG8Y I tried a Nvidia 8400gs and it booted without issues. but the amd card, on the other hand, does not boot and as far as bios options go there are no PCI options and its updated to the 2013 rev.

It looks like the GPU or the GPU driver problem, because your Dell PC came with the 300W PSU, which is good for the HD7470. And you said you can use the PC with the Nvidia 8400gs too.
1) Try use onboard iGPU or 8400gs, and DDU to uninstall the nvidia driver, and AMD driver if there is one in. Shut down the PC, switch to the hd 7470, if the hd7470 works you should be able to boot.
DDU http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
2) If you still have the same problem, test the hd 7470 in other PC, that you know it works or not.
