PSU Shootout...

OK so when I was young and naive I bought a Coolermaster 550w GX Series because all I saw was the green marketing gimmicks. It has failed me after 3 or 4 years, not that impressive really...

So I want something to replace it that will last a good 5 + years.

  • I don't intend to overclock, but it's a possibility in the future? Very unlikely
I want to record guitar/vocals maybe podcasts, so being some what quiet is quite important
I don't want to replace it again in two years, even if that means paying a little more.
I have a budget of about £65-70 max. Maybe I can push to £75 but not so keen.

I am looking at these:

Be Quiet! 600w

Seasonic M12II-620 Evo

This one I'm a little less sure of. Prices vary wildly for the G-series, but there's a good deal on this Alza site, elsewhere it's more expensive.

Seasonic G-Series 650w

https://www.alza.co.uk/seasonic-g-series-650w-d458060.htm

Also I am curious if I can get away with another 550w? Or should I get 650w to be safe? The 550w isn't cheaper on UK sites, but it is cheaper on some German sites.

My system:

i5 4670k
GTX 1060 6GB
1 HDD, 1 SSD (will be adding more drives in future)
Gigabyte z97 Mobo

All right someone else was telling me 600 or 650 will be more future proof but not needed I dont think however its on offer at Alza. I think the 550w is more! Lol

I think I'm going to go with whichever one I can get most affordable, they all seem very good. Taking all of your input into consideration. I have a £5 voucher at Alza.

Well its the Seasonic 650w G series for £86.36 delivered (1-3 days)

Or the EVGA 550w g3 for £79.97 delivered (Economy)

The latter is yeh, around £6 cheaper. But it will be nice to have that extra 100 watts just incase.

However, I am swayed almost by the extended warranty of the EVGA. I do care about noise, but only so much when I'm recording music, at which time the load wouldn't be so great so I assume any noise on the EVGA wouldn't matter so much because it would not be under load.

Basically I'd go EVGA if the Seasonic wasn't on offer, hands down - but the offer makes it tempting.

I genuinely don't know which to pick, ha. I usually scour one star reviews on Amazon - there are a few for the EVGAs - seasonics series seems to have almost none, but not even close to as many sales. Hum...
