i plan on upgrading my cpu really soon, but i'm struggling to make a choice between the 6700k or the 7700k. I'd go with the 7700k without question but i've heard about how the 7700k has issues with temps spiking. i"ve also read that deliding the 7700k could help a lot but i'm afraid to attempt the delid proccess and void my warranty. I've seen that both i7's have around the same amount of performance, but other than that, the temp issue is the only reason why i'm considering the 6700k. should i go with the 6700k or 7700k?

Solution
^ the issue with 7700k is true. it gets upto 1.5v for turbo and heats up getting spikes in thermals if left to mobo default settings. but that can be fixed by having an offset vcore control to limit the volts to the 7700k in ur bios settings. the max i would suggest is 1.35v. do this and u will be fine with the 7700k :)
I'm not sure where why people are concerned about the 7700K getting hot. If you have the right cooler, and the right settings, you should be good to go. I would get the 7700K is possible to get the most speed possible. Even though it's a slight increase, it's still an increase. What would you plan on doing?

i plan on just gaming. when i first started planning on upgrading my current cpu i was originally going to get the i5 7600k. What brought me bewteen the two i7's was that some of my friends and some articles i read suggested that i should go with the i7 if i wanted a good cpu that wouldn't bottleneck my current gpu and that would also last around 4.5 years or more.

I have had the 6700k for gaming and I believe for the price difference it is better than the 7700k because you can still overclock the 6700k to 4.5 GHz and above with an air cooler with a voltage of 3.3 to 3.5

Also the threads and cores and cache are all the same

Never seen anything close to 1.5V with mine.

Most I ever saw was 1.3V stress testing.

Running mine at 4.8 GHz at stock voltage out of the box, running with air cooling.

And I don't get spikes in temps either.

I don't get it either.

Have zero problems with mine.

It's the internet, most of it's BS fueled by the typical to spread drama and get views.

And from what I have read MOST of the issues are user related, case cooling, Cooler issues etc.

dont see how its user related if that is caused by mobo default settings. and when even 10% of the 7700k owners face those issues, its not something to be shrugged off. but anyway, like i said, if there is no spikes, well n good. if there is one, people have already analysed it found ways to solve it ;)

That would be a MB issue, not a CPU issue then wouldn't it?

If the MB's over volt the CPU's that's NOT a CPU issue.

Anyhow all of the MB makers have put out bios updates as far as I know.

Anyhow I would think most flash the bios right after they build if they know what they are doing.

If not they should.

Still most are related to improper case and or CPU cooling, mounting the coolers etc.

Easy to correct usually.

Most of it's overblown drama that's typical.

if thats the case, y is this not a mobo issues or y doesnt 7600k have this problem? this is related to the cpu VID

Different chips sets.... Z270 vs Z170.

Yeah I know the MB makers put out bios updates so the 7600K will run on the Z270 and vice versa.

Either way the bios issues are worked out with the latest updates.

That and the RAM compatibility issues on the Z270....
