Hello everyone, i just built my new ryzen based pc a few days ago and while exploring the bios i came to know that my 3000mhz ram is working at only 2133mhz and when i changed the ram profile, my pc just showed a black screen and i was not able to boot into the windows or access the bios. Following are my pc's specs:
Ryzen 7 1700
Asus x370 Pro Mobo
Corsair 3000mhz 16GBx1 RAM Stick
MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X
Corsair RM 750X
Samsung 850 evo 240gb+WD Black 1TB
NZXT S340 elite

Should i try to update the bios on my own or should i contact the customer support?

Also please suggest me a cooler for this pc.

Any help is appreciated and thank you for your time. (sorry for my bad english)

Gagan

Solution
1) You need 3000MHz to get the most out of an 8-core RYZEN CPU. It's not a small difference for heavy thread applications.

2) A SINGLE stick of memory gives you half the bandwidth. So "2133MHz" is actually 1066MHz effectively. Since 3000MHz gives notably better performance in some scenarios than 2133MHz (for Ryzen, not really Intel) you are going to lose even MORE performance having almost a THIRD of the bandwidth with only 1066MHz.

3) You need to go to the motherboard site and find kits that are recommended and known to WORK. Perhaps some work fine now with BIOS updates, and may run at higher clocks in the future with better BIOS updates, but for now stick with the RECOMMENDED memory.

4) *However, since the 3000MHz kit is already...

No need to update the BIOS. You need to reset the BIOS by shorting the two jumper pins on the motherboard (see the manual to locate it) or by removing CMOS battery. Once that's done, BIOS will reset to all default values.

I come across this quite often on my ASUS z270F Gaming and G.Skill Trident Z. Mine is also 3000 MHz but I managed to take it to 3333 MHz and Intel's XMP. and I'm not much of an AMD person so I don't know which cooler for Ryzen 7 1700.

Good luck.

make sure you have the latest bios. I don't think ryzen supports 3000 but it will do 2933 Mt/s but only if they have the bios issues worked out. It's worth another shot but I would be patient and keep an eye out for bios fixes.

You can keep trying, and it'll keep ending up with the same black screen or frequent crashes if it works. What frequency did you set the RAM to? Try increasing one at a time (from 2133 to the next listed higher frequency), then doing a memory stress test or some benchmark to ensure it's working fine.

@jpe1701, I'd say first let the "black screen, no POST" issue be fixed, then try updating the BIOS :p

i just went to the bios and selected "Profile 1"(something like that) and just restarted.

Also i tried to update the bios through internet but it kept saying that bios is up to date.

Hi GAGAN 55 :)

You do need to update your Bios to BETA BIOS 0803 with AGESA 1.0.0.6 in order to address your RAM correctly.
You can update the Bios yourself using EZ Flash3 utility from the Tools section of Bios.

Download the Bios file from ASUS support to a fat32 formatted empty USB stick then rename the file to X370PRO.CAP. Insert the USB in any suitable USB port and follow instructions (page 3-32 in your MB Manual)
Go here for the Bios file: https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/PRIME-X370-PRO/HelpDesk_Download/

For a correct cooler it depends if you wish to Overclock. An air cooler is sufficient for the 1700 and you can use Cryorig or Noctua for the AM4 platform. If you wish to install an AIO liquid cooler for Overclocking then I recommend the Corsair H110i or NZXT equivalent.

Both would fit. The H110i/H110iGT has a 280mm radiator rather than the 240mm H1100iV2.
Fans would also spin slower for less noise under load.
This is the one I would choose: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Extreme-Performance-Liquid-Cooling/dp/B019955W7C/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1462173561&sr=1-3&keywords=H110i
Some old stock do not have the correct mounting brackets for AM4 MBs so check with your supplier when you purchase as Corsair will provide the correct brackets and backplate for free if required.

Apparently, DCOP is the exact same thing in AMD as there's XMP in Intel. I use Intel XMP 2.0 on my G.SKill at 3200 MHz and I set the clock to 3333 MHz and so far, it's stable.

If you want more, try just one higher frequency setting if you can. So yes, that's the best easy stable clocks you can get on your RAM. I'd try not to push it further. Go to the OS and see what DRAM Frequency you are on.

D.O.C.P has a number of profiles corresponding to the RAM you're using. You can try different ones and see how you go. You may have to adjust your DRAM Timings and voltage if they don't work (much depends on the make of RAM) and also the CPU OC frequency you choose. Start with a small OC and work your way up with core voltage in small .05V steps till stable. Start at 1.3V on the core and do not go over 1.4V. A few other tweaks may be required for stability in respect to SOC but try the above first.

Unfortunately, I don't know how your RAM will work in single channel at 3000MHz. I have Corsair dominators 16GB 2x8 at 3000Mhz and still had to adjust my Primary Timings and Voltage to get them to work at 2933MHz. I am still awaiting Bios update for my MB however I have the Crosshair VI Hero MB and AGESA 1.0.0.6 version has yet to become available.

@MeanMachine41, I'd say don't mess with the clock timings and get the simplest highest OC you can. That's why I asked, GAGAN, If the DOCP profile is selected, apply it and restart your PC. In most cases, it doesn't cause any problems. After restarting, go to the OS, and see what frequency your RAM is. If it's higher than 2133 MHz, it's the simplest, most stable and best predefined setting you should go for.

Im no AMD expert but as far as I hear DOCP is like XMP, it should be perfect.
Sometimes, DRAM Frequencies are not at their highest or as defined because the CPU doesn't support them or isn't compatible.

Is there any chance that some future bios update will resolve this issue? I am still at 2133mhz. Also i am going to get another 16gb stick for my pc because i built this pc for video editing and want more ram, will it change anything? and how much ram does ryzen 1700 support because its not mentioned anywhere.

Sorry for bothering everyone. I appreciate your help and please tell me if you get any info regarding this issue if you could.

GAGAN, while taking RAM into consideration, ALWAYS try to get the exact same RAM sticks. Different ones usually cause many problems. As far as BIOS Updates, we can't be sure. Chances are, if there's an issue, people will report it and it'll take some time but an update can come.

Then, 2133 MHz is not that bad for video editing. Atleast it's working :)

I'm from India as well and I know that feel xD ... Get the exact same RAM stick from Amazon.in and it'll be good.

I am not alone :) .Also Amazon is way overpriced. Nehru Place FTW!!

Go to your AI Overclock Tuner> Dram Timing control.
There are numerous adjustments and you will have to learn these settings. Keep it simple till you know what each change does. Check your SPD info in the Tools section of Bios and set these values manually and increase your Dram voltage in small steps till stable.
