Before you ask how I did it, it did fit. I plugged it in and assumed it was CPU power due to the fact that it did fit in. It fit in by plugging it into the middle of the 8 holes. The computer wouldn't turn on. All I heard were a small electric noise from the PSU everytime I press power button but aside from that the PSU fan was not spinning. So I looked at the CPU power and I noticed I was using a 6 Pin PCIE instead. I plugged in 8 pin CPU power and it worked fine. But a few hours later I was thinking about it so I looked at it again. It smelled like something was burnt so I sniffed around the computer and I smelled the burnt smell from the CPU. I took the CPU out and the smell was strong in the CPU. Although it did not have any physical damage or anything and it works just fine all it had was the smell. I aired it out a bit and put the CPU back. it still smells but only if I hold it up to my nose. I think the smell is only there from when it first emitted and its not making the smell anymore. The smell is on the heatsink and CPU socket. Aside from the smell everything is working fine. I told my dad about it and he said to not worry about it if it works fine. I just want to make sure if it is really okay to not worry and if there is any possible issues that can occur in the future.. Thank you.

Sorry about that earlier. I have a question if you don't mind. Today I powered it on again and the scent is stronger. What could have caused it to smell this way and is it harmful? I am just wondering since it's sort of hard to breath afterwards.
If its harmful I might have to buy a new motherboard and CPU since I can't RMA them since my dad threw away my Intel box which had the serial code and I accidentally broke a the USB 3.0 port on my Mobo.

Hey thanks for answering. The smell is not coming from the PSU. The smell is coming from the CPU. The smell is strongest on the CPU and you can smell it on the heatsink and the CPU socket.

This thread is 3 years old.
Hopefully the OP has gotten his issue fixed by now.
