Is there a way to connect a PCI Ethernet adapter to my system and have that act like a switch/repeater/pass-through to the wireless router?

my main system i use is used for downloading, large archive files and such. I have a 200mbps connection to ISP. modem is 10/1001/1000. I have the wireless router connected to the modem's only ethernet port, that router is 10/100 speed. Preferably do not want to buy a router, wife complains of PC parts already.

Kids still need their fix of netflix and wife needs the kindle of course.

It's not safe to connect a PC directly to the modem. This configuration will leave the PC directly exposed to attacks, instead of being safe behind the NAT of the router.

You really need a better router...

You really need a better router with gigabit ports, and you should consider one with good QoS to give your PC priority if needed.

Technically you can do that function with ICS using your PC as a router and your old router as a AP.

Not a optimal way to do things. As mentioned above you have a security issue with your PC directly connected. In theory at least you can use the firewall in the PC to protect but too many unpatched bugs for me to recommend it. The other more painful issue is you are using your expensive PC as a router. It must be on all the time and you have to be careful what you run on it. If run something very intense it will disrupt the traffic of the other devices flowing though it.

You can get very inexpensive routers with gigabit ports it just is not worth the problems to use your PC as a router.
