Is 84 degrees to hot for 6700k oc to 4.5 ghz ?

Guys just a quick question as I am overclocking . I've got to 4.5 ghz with my 6700k but I need to voltage at least so far 1.43 v to not crash when sustaining test stress with OCCT . My CPU is reaching max 84 degrees under the stress test and I am wondering is that to high ?

Maybe you lost the silicon lottery, generally most i7-6700k would do 4.5Ghz under 1.4V. nothing you can do really, the voltage is too high for such meagre gain.

Exactly what my thoughts were .. it's weird . If I set to 4.4 ghz I can run stable at 1.375 v which is much lower then 1.43 and it runs at 79 degrees which isn't so bad. I just don't understand why going from 4.4 to 4.5 requires so much juice for getting stable ?

My advice would be to delid the ah heck and put some liquid metal on it, I have mine at 4.7 and 1.35v where thermals just hit 80°C under load. Delidding knocked off about 15-20°C for me. Curse that toothpaste TIM! Though it does seem that you lost the silicon lottery sadly.

What are you using to cool your chip?

As for the silicon lottery, can you RMA the chip and get a better one? I had a similar experience where my chip was underperforming. Since I had bought it at NewEgg, they just RMA'd and sent me a new one, which was rocking...

They do have little vices on ebay for them, but i did the old fashioned way, took a razor blade, put some electrical tape on the end for a grip, nutted up, and went for it. Youtube does have some tutorials for delidding a 6700k
