I'm looking to upgrade from an FX8350, I have a budget of around £200. The I5 7600K and Ryzen 5 1600x seem to be the best option for me, as my main focus is gaming. Out of these two which would be the better one? I have heard that the ryzen struggles with games that are not optimised for it.

Is there a newer intel cpu that competes with the ryzen? I might be looking at the wrong one, the model year is 2015.

Sorry might have misunderstood. The i5 7600k competes with the 1600 but in games that can use more than 4 threads the 1600 excels. Games are starting to use more threads and to me Ryzen just looks a better buy. We already know the next gen i5's will have 6 core variants so Intel are aware 4 cores won't cut it in the future.

Alright looks like the 1600x is the one for me. Thanks!

It might "look" a little dated, but I have two PCs - one with an i7-4790k and one with an i5-4690k (both moderately overclocked). I've swapped the same video card (a GTX 1060 6GB) between them on occasion and notice no difference in gaming on a 1920x1200 60hz monitor. Single core IPC still rules over many cores with a lower IPC in gaming.
