I have been having problems with my computer. My computer is an HP pavilion a6238x with a RAM upgrade and CPU. The RAM is 4 sticks of 2gb each DDR2 RAM. I am running Windows 7 64bit OS, and it says that I have 8.00gb of installed RAM, but only (3.25gb) usable RAM. I have checked to see if all the RAM is still working well and it is aswell as checked to see if it is all seated well and it is, I have also taken out different sticks of RAM and placed different ones in its place to see if anything changed. I have taken out 2 sticks and the computer reads that it has 4gb of installed RAM but again only 3.25gb usable RAM. I took out all RAM but one stick and it reads 2gb of installed RAM and doesn't say anything about usable RAM so I'm going to guess that all 2gb is being used. I have also tried placing two RAM sticks in both 1st and 3rd slots, and then in 2nd and 4th slots but neither had any difference. I believe I have an ASUS Leonite 2 motherboard with a Pentium D 945 (3.4ghz) processor. I have read there might be problems with the BIOS, so in that case, the BIOS is: Phoenix technologies LTD, BIOS version 5.21, Last updated in 2007. If the solution to my problem is flashing/updating the BIOS please explain how, because I don't know how to. Thank you all, and have a great day!

Solution
The computer is usually showing 3,25 usable RAM when it runs on 32 bit OS. To see and use more than 4Gb RAM you need 64 bit OS. Next, you should search the internet for a newer BIOS version. There are usually 2 ways to upgrade:

1. The BIOS upgrade is an executable file, you double click on it, click next next, the computer does the rest.

2. The BIOS upgrade is a file that needs to be copied onto a USB stick. The BIOS itself has an option which says Flash upgrade or something like that. You need to select it and go on from there.
