How much does RAM effect Processing Speed?

How much does RAM effect Processing Speed? I went from a i7 920 18gb of ram, to an i7 7700 and I just put in 4gb to get it up and running, until I can get more ram. But when I export video its super slow. Do I just need more ram for it to use the processor correctly?

Usually video processing requires a computer with a strong CPU and large amount of ram (16Gb+). The 4Gb you have is enough for light stuff, but is just not enough for video processing
