A coworker asked me to see if he can upgrade the ram on this netbook, when I first got it, it booted right up, but I was at work, I left it running when I came back it was on standby or sleep mode, I took it home that way, battery was discharged so I plugged it in and tried to boot it, led on power button came on, I could hear the fan spinning, but all I got was a black screen.

I found this old video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHkGkw9EE8c&t=145s

This one is an Acer aspire one AO532h

I followed this but the netbook will not do as he says.

can anybody help please?

I am no expert but this could be a huge number of issues and as your netbook was taken apart that leads to more issue. Depending on what your coworker did it could be a lose or broken connection. Incompatibility between the new RAM that is causing issues. The only thing I can think of is maybe try connecting to whatever output your netbook has (HDMI, VGA) assuming it has one. Output this to a external screen and that will tell you whether its the actual screen of the netbook thats playing up or the video itself (if it is black on the external screen its the video and if you can see on the external screen its simply the display on your netbook). If it turns out its the video then you are kind of stuffed as any manufacturing warranty is void if you change the components. Worst comes to worst get your coworker to open it back up and check all the connections and if everything he did was correct.

I didn't do anything to it yet, I just booted the netbook to see that it worked, but perhaps I should've turned it off before I put it in a bag?
although I never did smell anything like plastic or silicone heating up nor burning of any kind!

It was still on sleep or standby mode.

the netbook is his, he gave me the netbook so I can find ram online but I never got the chance to do so.

Oh I get what you mean now, you are the one changing the RAM, gotcha. Well I mean, its hard to tell what kind of issues the netbook has purely from a black screen. Given that the VGA output is also black it isnt the display and more likely an issue within the netbook. I would suggest rebooting the PC in safe mode and seeing if its boots correctly. Have you tried any diagnosis modes you can enter upon booting up? I think you hold F8 to start in safe mode. Let me know if you have tried this or it displays anything on the screen.

nope that doesn't work either, with built in screen or external, some how the graphics array probably got fried?
