Hey guys,

As the title says, what do you guys think about the 1600x for gaming at 1440p with a 1080Ti? I've looked for gaming benchmarks between the 1600x and the I7-7700K at 1440p but could literally only find one article, with only The Ashes of the Singularity, a game and genre I have no interest in.

I know the basic differences between them, the 1600x has more cores and threads, but the cores are at a lower clockspeed. The I7 is the way to go for gaming in general, and the difference tends to be noticeable at 1080p. But the other things is, the 1080Ti is practically a 'supercard' and I feel like the difference would kind of equal the two out, especially at 1440p.

Now I know the Ryzen chip is better for applications that use multiple cores and threads, and I would like to have a CPU that can handle those applications or just multiple applications at once. But that being said, I wouldn't want to sacrifice 10-20% of my frames as I will be playing at 144Hz.

If you think this will help, I will be playing Overwatch (which I believe favors the R5) most prominently, but also Skyrim, Fallout 4 and other open world games. Other applications I would use would be the majority of Adobe's softwares and OBS.

Thanks in advance. :benetton:

P.S I will be overclocking the Ryzen 5 to 4.0GHz and the I7 at least to about 4.8GHz

Ashes of Singularity is a CPU intensive game, so if both processors perform equally well then you wouldn't go wrong picking either I would think. Although, the 1600x is more a direct competitor to the 7600k than the 7700k so you can always consider the i5's as well. Since I don't know as much abour CPUs as I should, I could direct you to this thread to have a look at (that is, if you haven't already) until other, more consumate individuals pitch in.

Although personally, I'd recommend the i5-7600k instead for gaming. It's cheaper than the 7700k and performs very well, unless you do more video editing or anything similar to that than you would game and require the extra threads.

Yeah I understand that it is a CPU intensive game, the thing is I wouldn't be playing that many CPU intensive games. The thread gave me some more insight but still didn't completely answer my question as they focused on 1080p and the GPU in question was the 1070. But I feel like I'm leaning more to the I7 now, specifically because the i5 is not ideal for streaming and running other applications in the background. A lot of people have said that the performance was a bit lower on the 1600x compared to the I5 at 1080p, but the I5 was maxing out it's usage and the Ryzen was chilling at 45-55% CPU usage. So the I5 is out for sure, it's just down to the two from before.

Thanks though, I'll keep an eye on that thread.
