Hey,

Need a tad bit of help thinking of upgrading my Intel I5-4460 3.20GHz
my current setup is
GTX 1080 Founders Edition
windows 10 64 bit
The CPU mentioned above
16GB of ram

I'm looking for a I7 that will compliment my graphics card and to speed my computer up a bit. The two chips I've been looking at are
Intel Core i7-7700k (4.2Ghz) LGA1151 at £270
or
Intel Core i7-6700k (4.0Ghz) LGA1151 at £235
which would be the better one or is there one better but no higher in price than the £270 one?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you guys can help

Regards
Matthew

Use MSI afterburner overlay to check and see if your CPU is reaching 100% or close to it. If so then your CPU is a bottleneck. Also check GPU usage to see by how much the bottleneck is. GPU usage should be 97% to 99% or 100% all the time. If you're getting super close to that then it's not that big of a bottleneck but if you see GPU usage in the 40's up to the 70's then that's a pretty big bottleneck and I would definitely upgrade soon. I'd go with the 4790K. Also no matter how far you turn down the settings you will not see any FPS improvements if there is a bottleneck.
