Hi Guys i have HP Envy 14-j007TX laptop it has i5 5th gen and Nvidia GTX 950M DDR3 with 12gb RAM bought recently from a retailer 4 months ago brand new currently running win 10 creators update with all things upto date on the windows update part in recent months (roughly a month before) i am facing this issue while playing games it was working fine at start then after 10 or 15 min games starts lagging like fps getting dropped suddenly from 45 to 15 or 10 for 10 to 20 seconds then comes back to normal then again after a min same lagging and this cycle continues forever please find below steps tried and observations from my side:

- Uninstalled updated graphics drivers and went to 2 or 3 previous versions also one which provided in HP official drivers website but nothing fixed issue remains the same.
- tweaked nvidia control panel settings to performance oriented but still facing the same issue.
- no background process are running while the lag apart from the game which is currently playing
- CPU and GPU temps are between 50 - 70 celcius but never spiked above 71. CPU utilization is between 50 - 100 mostly between 70 - 100. **and today i noticed one thing while lagging the cpu utilization comes down to 50 percent exactly 50 no more or less and after the lag it comes to normal**
- uninstalled windows XBOX app and also Game bar but still issue remains the same.
- On games which i am facing this issue are GTA 5 with Online, Battelfield 1, Darksouls 3 irrespective any settings from low to high.

Kindly someone please help me on this issue this thing is very irritating most of the new games are unplayable due to this if you need any logs or queries please ask for the same i am very much happy to provide at any time thanks.

Solution
12 GB of ram is a odd amount. you need ram of the same size to run in dual channel mode. and they don't make 6 GB sticks. So, I guessing you have 8 and 4 GB sticks. you need 4 and 4 or 8 and 8 GB sticks.

Have you tried changing the Settings in the Nvidia Control Panel and set your Power Options to high performance? If not, for the Nvidia setting go to: Control Panel -> Nvidia Control Panel, select "Manage 3D Settings" and on the "Preferred Graphics Proccessor" dropdown menu, select "High-performance Nvidia Proccessor". Then go to "Set PhysX Configuration" and select "GTX 950(M?)" for your PhysX processor. Then for the Power options, go to Control Panel -> Power Options, click on "Show additional plans" and click on the "High Performance" option. Hope this helps :)
