Hi,
I have 4 sticks of ram and one of them is faulty but corsair won't accept it on warranty because I bought it through amazon, so I'm looking into getting another ram kit. I'm on the x99 platform so I have 8 ram slots, should I buy another 4x4 kit in dual channel and not use my current three sticks or buy 2x8 and use 5 sticks in single-chanel? or just a 4x4 and my three to make up 7 sticks on single channel?

Keeping your configuration in dual channel would definetely deem faster and more efficient and reliable memory. Running an un-even amount of RAM may work fine, but the more memory brands and speeds that you mix, the more likely you are to run into an error. Purchasing a 4x4 kit in dual channel, and discarding your old memory would be the most reliable and safe option. Or, purchase a 2x4 of the exact same memory you have now, and run two old sticks, and two new ones. It all depends on your budget and how reliable you want the memory configuration to be.

Ok, I ordered some more memory from the same brand and get 2 x 4gb ddr4 3000 memory and installed it so I have 2 of my old ram sticks (ddr4-2133 2 x 4gb) in slots 1 and 3 and the other 2 sticks (3000mhz) in slots 5 and 7. Seems to be working, can I run the 2133 memory at 2133 and also overclock the other 2 sticks to 3000?
