I ruined a brand new Asus Hero IX Mobo by trying to install a CoolerMaster CPU cooler.
I have a new mobo on the way and a new Noctua L-Type NH-L9x65. This is the absolute first time I have ever installed an Intel chip (my previous builds were AMD) and those pins in the mobo socket really look like another accident just waiting to happen. How does anyone install an aftermarket cooler in these things without bending the pins?? I could really use some advice ....

Solution
Hello... Typically you need to have you CPU clamped/locked into the MB socket first, before handling any other device OR before the cooler install...

Did you over tighten your Cooler screws and cause this problem?

The mobo, cpu, stock intelcooler, and ram came assembled by a third party provider via Amazon. I removed the stock cooler to install the CoolerMaster. I bent a whole lot of socket pins, beyond repair. The Noctua cooler is not near as tall and will probably not be as 'unwieldy' to install, but it seems that the socket 1151 is way too delicate to take much fiddling with. The lesson costs me $240.00. The new mobo will come completely stock so it will undoubtedly have the socket shield in place ... I hope.
