If a cpu socket on a motherboard can support an i7 4690 will it support a Intel BX80662G4400 Pentium Processor G4400, 3.3GHz

Solution
When I say i3 4xxx, what I mean is an i3 with a 4 in that place in the model name. Some examples:

i3 4150, i3 4370, i5 4440, i5 4690, i7 4770, i7 4790K

The "4" means "4th generation", just like in an i3 6100, the 6 means it's 6th generation (and would not be compatible with a motherboard that takes 4xxx CPUs). You can use any CPU that has a 4 there.

I am looking for a cpu that will fit in a i7 4790 socket and my budget is like $120 maybe I am just wondering if there is even a cpu for that price???

The socket an i7 4790 fits in is "1150":

http://ark.intel.com/products/80806/Intel-Core-i7-4790-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_00-GHz

Any 4xxx CPU will work, because 4xxx (and 5xxx) CPUs were the ones that used socket 1150. Generally, a Core i3 costs about $100-150, an i5 about $200-250, and an i7 about $300-350. A brand new i3 would be acceptable for gaming, but older ones are a bit weak, and the CPUs for socket 1150 are about 4 years old at this point. In your budget you can afford an i3 4xxx, but depending on how demanding the games you're playing are, you might be disappointed by it.

you need to look at the cpu supported list for your motherboard

this program will tell you what you have under the "mainboard" tab

Okay,,, I opened up my Alienware x51 r2 and took out the cpu. I needed a cpu to build my new computer (the one I am on right now) and wanted to save some money. So now my alienware is sitting on my desk with no cpu in it. I cannot find out the motherboard in it because I can't turn it on or look at it because there is metal casing all around it and I don't wanna ruin anything and I am not gonna do that. I need a cpu that will fit where a previous i7 4790 used to go because that is the cpu that USED to be in the computer. Don't bother looking up the specs of an alienware x51 r2 I tried that and there are sooo many different kinds named under the same name it's stupid.
