I have a C3000 cable modem, picked it up so I could return the timewarner cable modem and save the $7 a month charge. Its been great except lately the wireless performance has been simply abysmal across all wifi devices (android phones & tablet, Windows 7 & 10 laptops, Amazon firstick, guest devices, etc. When I take any of my laptops and connect to the LAN I get the full bandwidth (100Mb, repeatedly tested on speedtest). Lately benchmarking my wifi has actually been dialup speeds...like literally dialup speeds...0.1Mb and that sort. This is when I'm close enough to touch the router, so its definitely not a range thing.
I've done some reading and I see a lot of people complaining about this model router for this exact issue. I've reset it, messed with the settings some, changed channels, dropped the MTU from 1500 to 1400 and back up...no real useful impact. I've tried moving it and I seem to get positive results, but they don't seem consistent...I'm above a megabit now, closing in on 2. Golly!!
So I dug out my OLD Netgear wireless router, connected it to the LAN port and set it up as a second wireless network, they're both 2.4GHz WAPs though, so I set one to channel 11 and the other to 4 to give as much bandwidth separation as I can. Benchmarks on the new network are definitely better, but still considerably slower than I think it ought to be...6-8Mb now is pretty consistent.
So I've improved my performance by about 60x, but its still not all that great.
Any suggestions? Anyone ever come across a successful resolution to the C3000 issue? I can't flash it because Spectrum Cable controls that. Its clearly not a provider problem so I haven't even bothered with them. I'm going to get some longer cables and experiment with placement of each router and see if i can find a sweet spot away from anything else I'll also shut off the C3000 wireless and see if I'm generating interference on the other one.
Thanks in advance.
