Hi Guys!
A fortnight ago, my old HDD (a Western Digital, model: WD10EADS-00L5B1) started to play up, everything was running extremely slowly. A few days later, my computer would not boot windows and prompted me to insert a proper boot device, regardless of my boot priorities. My options were my DVD Drive with a legitimate copy of windows 8.1, and alternatively, my hard drive. Both of these options would lead me to this "insert a proper boot device" screen. I Had installed Windows 8.1 previously through a disc, but I upgraded to windows 10 through a windows notification.

I ordered an SSD, as I was seeking to upgrade regardless. I purchased a Crucial MX300 525GB SSD, and I've connected the SATA cable and power cable. In my BIOS and boot settings, the new SSD is popping up, however, I cannot manage to get the PC starting the reinstallation of Windows 8.1 as it is stuck requesting me to "insert a proper boot device", regardless of my boot priorities.

I'm wondering if there's a reason it's attempting to boot, and not to fresh install as there's no connection to my old hard drive.

My PC parts are as follows:

CPU: Intel I7 2600k (not overclocked)
GPU: XFX Radeon R9 290 4GB
Storage: Crucial MX300 525GB
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws, 2 x 4GB
Motherboard: ASRock B75M DGS R2.0 MATX
Power Supply: Corsair CXM 750W 80+
DVD-Drive: LG Super Multi DVD Drive
OS: Windows 8.1 upgraded to Windows 10 on release on my old Hard drive, but I only have a copy of windows 8.1 on disc

Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your help!

Problem solved, it was purely an issue with my old DVD drive. If you're struggling with a similar issue, try replacing that piece.
