Hey all I have the above mentioned Motherboard running Windows 8.1 64-bit along with:
1x Samsung 850 M.2
4x SATA HD
1x SATA Blu-Ray Drive

The manual states that if you use the M.2 port Sata 1 will be disabled, if i read the mobo diagram correctly that means the top most SATA port. If I plug the blu ray drive into the top port my machine boots fine but the blu ray is missing from Disk Management.

If I plug the blu-ray into the lower of the Sata ports the machine hangs at the boot screen showing "hit F2 or Del to enter setup" - of course you cant get into setup as the machine has locked up.

Has anyone had any luck getting 5 drives to work on an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard?

This seems to be an Intel chipset issue as I've struggled to get machines to boot with certain Sata ports (usually 0 or 1) filled ever since the Z67 chipset.
