I built a computer for my friend and it connected to the internet just fine at my house with ethernet. I took it over to his house and I plugged it into the router but it would not connect. I took it back to my house to troubleshoot but realized it connected perfectly fine. Other computers won't connect through ethernet either. He had only been using wifi before. Does anybody know how to fix this issue. I'm open for suggestions.

Is it a modem and router combo? Make sure the ethernet is plugged into the right ports on back of router/modem. Usually going to 192.168.0.1 will bring up router config page as long as u are connected whether wirelessly or straight Ethernet and even if no internet. U could check settings make sure ethernet options are good. You could reset router to factory defaults by holding small reset hole for roughly 30 seconds. This will reset any custom wifi names and password if ever changed previously. There are sometimes numerous ethernet ports on back of router with some hsving more thsn one possible input. Id check that its in a port 1-4 and that its going to modem from the seperate port away from the grouped ones. Unless its a gateway 2 n 1 then just check ports

i have used other cables. Originally he returned the cable because he thought it was DOA. I also tried all of the ports on the back. I didn't have him reset to factory settings because he has other people in the house he didn't want to bother. The settings were the same as mine and should not have caused issues either. It said that ethernet should be working.

What id do then so that it doesnt reset and ethernet and ports are good plus since its not just this computer is this

Find out the router gui ip address. Sometimes on a sticker on the router. Common ones are 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.1.1 youll just have to google if not those two and search like cisco linskys e6300 default router ip and login. Because once you are to the router config itll ask for login. Might be on sticker, otherwise common ones are admin admin or admin netgear just depends on the model and who its made by. Once you get into the router settings check for things dhcp settings under lan options or wired. Check lease times and make sure nothng seems off. No static ip unless it was set for a reason and dhcp turned on. If its an apple the setting is something like share the ip address across the local network, basically assigning IPs to the local network but using one ip for wide. Whst kind of router/modem?

Also, if both wireless and ethernet are enabled on the computer it will possibly show it as just connected wirelessly when connected with both. Try going into the network and sharing center by right clicking network icon. Go to change adapter settings, and disable wifi adapter. It wouldnt of did the samr thing at ur house unless he has been on your wifi in the past but even then it shouldve shown as a wireless icon which im assuming since it worked at ur hoise that it was an ethernet icon

You can login to a router and config via its ip address when using wifi, it would be odd to have the ethernet disabled or something similar but if that was the case it would have to be changed by using wifi connection or hard resetting the router. Im not even sure there are settings to disable ethernet, but all a little different and since he says hes checked everything else already it doesnt leave very many possibilities.

I know, what I"m saying is to disable the wifi adapter so it forces the ethernet connection. You say wifi works, ethernet doesnt. How do you know ethernet doesnt? By looking at icons or do you run commands? So far everything Ive suggested you've already done so imagining you checked actual adapter statuses, ipconfig disable wifi all of that? probably
