is there a benefit to buying the longer GPU cards with multiple fans?

I've been primarily looking at EVGA, but all of the manufacturers seem to do this. There will be two versions of a card with virtually identical specs, but one has two or three fans, and one will be much shorter with a single fan.

Obviously the shorter card is meant for people who have length restrictions in their case, but if there were no difference between the models, why would they make a longer card?

Is there a benefit to the longer card? Better cooling? Quieter cooling?

Solution
Better cooling, sometimes the mini versions of the cards have their clock speeds and memory speeds lowered to compensate for less cooling. Unless you need a shorter version, get the longer version with more fans.

+1. Better cooling and often quieter as well (more fans spin a lower speeds that translates to less noise).
