I built a low end gaming PC costing about £450, the processor that i used (AMD Athlon II X4 860K 3.7 GHz Quad-Core) has suddenly started hitting temps of around 90 degrees Celsius whereas before it was consistently around the 35-40 mark? any reasons? comp is only 2 months old all parts were brand new and the PC is fitted with a Cryorig H7 which is more than satisfactory for the PC i have, Thanks in advance.

What are you using to measure temps with? Anything other than AMD's Overdrive will likely give you nonsense readings for AMD's FM2 chips. I suggest downloading Overdrive and reporting back with your thermal margin, which is how close you are to overheating - a larger number is better, and anything greater than zero is safe.

I was previously using HWMonitor, my thermal margin is around 40-60 degrees celsius when using overdrive, however my PC keeps shutting down but im unsure whether this is to do with the high temps or something else?

If it shoots up over 90°C its probably because of the temperature...
Check if the Heatsink still sits perfectly on the CPU.... Best would be to unscrew and redo the whole thing of mounting the Heatsink....

i also had problems with mounting the cooler not straight .... this also caused me very high temperatures

Ive checked that its sitting fine , i have tried replacing the thermal paste as well just in case there was an air bubble between the cpu and heatsink, ive cleaned the the whole comp in case it was dust however it was already quite clean because its a fairly new pc

It depends sometimes it will slowly climb and other times i notice it will jump up 10-20 degrees for no reason.both fans are spinning perfectly fine as well this is why im struggling to understand what the problem is.

What does a Powersupply have to do with temperature?
I think he never said anything from shutdowns, only very high temperature...

Jack_280 which thermal paste did you use?

I built the PC myself so i knew what was going into it....pretty sure the powers upply is suitable to be honest however ill see what you say.

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 860K 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor
GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
RAM: G-Skill 8GB XL Ripjaws X for Intel Sandybridge Platforms DDR3 PC12800 1600MHz 8GB
Cooler: Cryorig H7
PSU: EVGA 100-W1-0430-K3 430 W W1 Series Budget ATX PC Power Supply

i was thinking its possibly a faulty driver however i cant seem to figure out where the problem is.

I am getting shutdowns, and high temps however so i put 2 and 2 together and thought they might be related.... the thermal paste that came with the cpu.

Okay then i misread this... i didnt see you also get shutdowns... so it could be both... Temp and PSU...
But still the Temp is way to high even if you wouldnt get shutdowns....

The only suggestion i can give you is to first try out some good and new thermalpaste...
Like the MX4 or one from Thermal Grizzly... those are a bit more expencive than most TP's but its worth it in my opinion
If this still doesnt help try the Thing Ecky said and try another PSU...

i dont know if temps are a problem as ecky said about my thermal margin (which today is sitting at 70 degrees) being fine therefore its not overheating the shutdowns must be completely unrelated.
