Ehternet not working on my computer only?

alright, small update. I am still unable to get it to work, every time I try I get "DNS Server may be unavailable" or whatever. I've tried every single possible thing I can think of, and the only way I could get an ethernet connection to work was plugging it directly into the modem (not an option for my computer). I've tried it without the switches, resetting my dns, ip, router, modem, (all of that with and without the switches and with various ones) and even resetting windows and losing all my data didn't help. when I go into the router webpage, it shows 5 wired clients (3 of which are directv, 2 are computers).

Why does it show my computer's IP as unknown? And why does my IP show as a 172. instead of a 192. and how the hell do I fix this? I am so sick and tired of this issue that I'm ready to literally rip the computer from the desk and throw it out the window.

*ORIGINAL POST BELOW*

Hey guys, not quite sure what is happening. I feel like I've exhausted my resources so I came here.

Basically, my computer's internet stopped working the other night. I chalked it up as "the ehternet cable got bent in the door", but after trying new cables and different computers (on the same cable and having success), resetting my ip, re-installing ehternet drivers, resetting modem/router and splitter, and troubleshooting on the pc, I'm still clueless as to why it won't connect.

I've had a laptop connect successfully everywhere, and so I have no idea what to do to get my desktop to work. Motherboard is an MSI 970 Gaming with killer e2200 gigabit ethernet controller. Worked fined previously. If anyone has any fixes please let me know. The troubleshooter only comes up with modem having connectivity issues and tells me to reset it, despite the modem being fine with literally every other computer in the house. I feel like I'm out of options. Thanks

Your changes didn't apply then. And I promise you're getting the 172 address because it was specified in those settings. That's what the 'preferred' means in your first ipconfig /all paste. The 172 address originates...

Is there a driver for LAN currently installed (can you see it in Device MAnager?). If so, remove that first, before trying to install any driver(s).

The software suite (Killer Suite?) is usually the culprit. I'd suggest uninstalling the driver, and the suite. Then reboot & install only the driver from MSIs site.

Use the one denoted "Killer Network Driver (driver only)"

I will try uninstalling any other drivers and reinstall only killer, but I've tried this a few times now... Give me a sec, and I'll ipconfig it

Ip was dynamic, it's now static. The issue is still present. When I'm in my network and sharing center, it doesn't even show the name of the network I'm on (if that is a clue to anything). This computer (with a brand new 1080) is about to go flying out the window...

It's showing those addresses because you have it statically assigned. I've stated 3 times now to set it to automatically obtain then restart your computer (do this while connected to your switch or router). THEN give me an ipconfig /all.

After that, I will take you from there. I've done this kind of thing for a living for 8 years, I don't know why I'm doing it in my free time XD

it's already set to automatically obtain it, it has been for awhile now. I changed it as soon as it didn't work the first time.

Your changes didn't apply then. And I promise you're getting the 172 address because it was specified in those settings. That's what the 'preferred' means in your first ipconfig /all paste. The 172 address originates from your isp/modem which is why it works plugged into there but not into your switch which has a 192 address. Also, your reply even got it backwards. You had a static from the beginning and then later updated saying you switch to static. So if you want me to help any further, please go back, check those settings, RESTART your computer, and repaste an ipconfig /all. I'll take you from there, otherwise good luck going forward.
