Can't I create a website to store movies?

Hi! I have about 350 movies and 100 Tv shows to store.

The movies each run for about 1.5h and the Tv shows each have from 16-25 episodes running at about 1h each. Keep in mind that this list keeps growing though so to store it all I'd need to keep buying DVDs or hard drives so I thought: why don't I create a website and put them there?

There are so many websites where people can choose a movie to watch among thousands that are present there, maybe I could do the same but only with the movies/tv shows I want...?

Can I do that? And if not, why?

My current interpretation of your post is that you are attempting to find a less costly means to store said library. If that is the case - how would a website be more cost effective than to create and maintain a NAS solution and grow from there? I can see granting access to the NAS via user or device and enjoy on several devices. While you can do that effectively via WiFi my preference is to use wire - my experience with high definition video from any source is that WiFi access will eventually hang or stutter while the network self corrects.
Copyright issues were raised in another post here. Regardless of ownership one does not have the right to provide open access to purchased media - such as an open web site would provide. I personally am concerned that some of the aged media that I have stored on my NAS I could be hard pressed to provide documented proof of ownership. Some of the material I have stored there is from early DVDs that I have in my possession - just not sure where to lay my hands on them.
