I recently got a new gaming pc. I built it and it was tested out in the shop and it worked. I then flew it home and got a new monitor with it. However, when I try to turn it on, it doesn't. It just says "Analog" in the top left hand corner or "HDMI" if I'm using an hdmi cable. I was told that I needed to plug it into the graphics card instead of the motherboard. Is this true? And can you please suggest any other reason that my computer won't turn on. Thanks!

Solution
If you have dedicated GPU, you have to connect your monitor to it, not to motherboard.
Without list of components, can't say much, but assuming it worked in the shop, it must be something basic, like switch on the back of PSU turned off.

My specs are:
Processor: Intel core i5 7500 3.4 ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte B250m d3h
8Gb Ram ddr4
B500 ver2 power supply
Graphics Card: Asus dual geForce GTX 1060
My hdmi cable was plugged into the motherboard rather than the graphics card. Side Note: should I use an hdmi cable or a vga cable, because my monitor came with a vga cable.
