I am looking around for a gaming laptop that does not exceed $1600. I have been told Alienware is overpriced and that there are better gaming laptops for a cheaper price. I found this laptop (here is the link to it: https://www.samsclub.com/sams/msi-15-6-gnb-16g256g-intel-core-i7-7700hg/prod21261352.ip?xid=plp:product:1:6 ). It is an MSI 15.6" Full HD Gaming Notebook, Intel i7-7700HQ Processor, 16GB Memory, 1TB HDD + 256GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 Graphics. I need the laptop for college, but also would like for it to run almost any games at good frames(ex: Playerunkownbattlegrounds, Arma 3, and Dying light). I also Produce music for a class and would assume if it can run these games well, then it can run a software like Fl Studio 12. Thank you!

Get one with GSYNC if possible then lock the max FPS. For example, if it's a 75Hz screen lock to 60FPS.

GSYNC is a really, really big deal. It can make the difference between SMOOTH gaming and stuttering. In fact, many games can run about 40FPS with GSYNC and run great, but on a normal monitor you'd be using VSYNC ON (adds stuttering if not synched to the monitor refresh which is 60Hz/60FPS for most laptops), or with VSYNC OFF you get added STUTTERING.

So with GSYNC you just tweak the game towards the ideal average FPS instead of worrying about maintaining a minimum of 60FPS or whatever. You can get by with a lower FPS in general which also helps battery life and noise from the fan.

Having an SSD + HDD (as the above two do) is a great idea too. I would also make a BACKUP IMAGE of the SSD shortly after you add your programs and configure it so you can RESTORE the backup (it's a huge hassle later if you don't do that).

*This may or may not be the best choice, however it does come with GSYNC:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234455&cm_re=gsync-_-34-234-455-_-Product

The 128GB SSD is plenty if you don't install games on the SSD portion.

One thing you should know about GSync...

Laptops with a GSync screen will have nVidia's Optimus disabled because GSync is not compatible with Optimus. Optimus allows the laptop to switch between integrated graphics and dedicated graphics to save power. If battery life is important, then you should take that fact into consideration.
