Optical drive started smoking

I just put in my brother's ODD to test some games in a computer I just built out of second hand parts, saw and smelt smoke and I'm pretty sure it was the ODD after smelling around inside the case and pulled it out, looked at the cables which appeared to be fine and even pulled the disk drive apart but saw no charring and smelt nothing inside. The only smell was on the connectors for the disk drive. The power supply is an FSP 600w PSU with 80+ bronze. Not too keen on turning the computer back on incase it fries anything else. If anyone knows if this really was the power supply, or anything else please say so.

Solution
I got a replacement power supply and after about two four disk long games being installed, I can confidently say it was the power supply. The company even refund me because they found it faulty. I am also glad to say that because it was a modern power supply, it didn't kill any components at all. Thanks for your help everyone.

HAHA this made my Day thanks sir... :)

But now to your problem... In our company nearly every computer we have is an HP and here we also had a problem with some disk drives burning through...
Some even got dark black where the powercable was plugged in...

After unplugging the disk drive everything worked again just fine....

I cant tell you if it is the same with yours i can only share my experiences with you :)

Please tell us the exact names of those 3 things..:

- Power Supply
- Motherboard
- Disk Drive (best would be the modelnumber i dont know if you can find that)

thanks!

Will have to list specifications in the morning, a little tired right now. I know PSU is FSP Hydro HD600, mobo is Intel DH67BL and I'm pretty sure optical drive is HP. Will let you know in morning and might try to boot without hard drive or GPU.

The disk drive is an HP GSA-H31L (A2CH). A bit of a change of plans; have contacted the people who I bought the PSU off since that wasn't second hand (forgot to mention that) and a replacement is coming so will power up the pc with all parts when it arrives just to be safe.
