my screen keeps saying lens cover might be closed even though it is open and my screen is black any ideas?

What is the make and model # of the camera? Does the lens cover close when the camera is turned off? Have you tried a factory reset?
Try removing the battery or batteries and then turn the camera on (yes, I know it won't turn on). Turn the camera off, re-insert the battery or batteries and try again.
