Does anyone know if there is a service I can hire for money that will burn a DVD of Enterprise RedHat developers. It's about a 4GB download and I can't really handle that large of a download right now. I will try the 400MB version in the meantime, but any help appreciated.

Any way I can get the DVD mailed to me would be great! :)

I now have the 400MB .iso. I will burn that today and find a computer to install it to before worrying about the latte and 4GB download. But I want to have dual-boot so I need to do some research. I don't want to lose my Windows machine's windows os. It's a nice old 2.5GHz Optiplex that I use some programs on that are valuable. Hopefully, I'll figure out the dual-boot thing somehow.

I think I will download CentOS and Live up and accomplish the repartitioning. The machine I will install on just failed to start so I took the case off, shook it around some, blew on it, tightened cables, and then it booted, except I dropped the mouse on the floor and the mouse is acting very strange so it's time for a new mouse. I'm NOT worried that I will mess up Windows. I think it will go fine. I might back up Windows first. I could easily reinstall this machine if something went wrong - I only use ONE application on it.

Now my mouse is working fine for some reason but the real news is that the 2,80 GHz P4 machine (I assume that it's 32 bits, is an X86). Redhat Linux 7 does not run on that architecture and I must set up Redhat LInux 7, not Redhat Linux 6. Thus I will NOT be able to use that PC. I need to buy a PC or something, and hopefully a used one.

It's a Dell Optiplex 520, 2,80 GHz. But the above is for the server version, which I have trouble downloading at home. 4GB is too large. I can handle 400MB in th emorning but during the day, I get disconnected a lot. I can try it in the middle of the night though.

Is my 400 MB a different version? This is weird. Why so contradictory information?

My bad, I now realize that as long as you have at least a 1GHz processor and about 1GB of RAM, you shoudl be good to go with Pentium 4 and higher. I had misunderstood some chart that was describing how many CPUs you can have. So I should be ok.

I decided to download Gnome GParted Live CD. I burnt the CD, then booted to it and I'm now on the Gparted screen and realize that I have a gift situation. I had NOT realized that I had 223GB of unallocated space. I won't even have to resize my hard-drive. I can just allocate and format - perhaps ext4. I need to verify how it's best to format for Redhat Linux.

Both Redhat 6.9 and Redhat 7.,4 (beta) have problems on install. Neither can detect my CD-ROM, and 7.4 doesn't even know that I already have an installation of Windows and doesn't even show the partitions I have. Disappointment. Other than those problems, they both ran pretty well. I didn't realize that I would have to troubleshoot the installation process so soon in the process.

At least my Windows XP is still ok.

An idea has occured to me that perhaps I should just install the .iso file to the partition and then use a boot-loader to boot to that partition and install to it. Or perhaps I can manually edit the boot.ini file and add a line with the multi, partion, etc.. info - it's simple info - hard to mess this up. Then perhaps it can jump to that once I set the boot flag in Gparted. I have NOT yet set the boot flag. Any one agree with this method? It should work as long as I set the boot flag. I assume it's fine to have boot flag set on many primary partitions. After all, that's the idea.

I used Rufus to put it on a USB drive. Exactly the same behavior as using the CD. It wants me to pick a drive from the list. Perhaps I should pick the drive that it lists as sda? Will it then ask me for more partitions. I expect to see sda1, sda2, and sdb (the USB flash), but I only see sda and sdb. I am worried that if I choose sda, it will overwrite Windows. Does anyone have experience with the install, enough to know that it will find the partition I created in GParted Live CD? I need to know that there isn't something wrong. And is it perhaps that I did not set some flag on that partition - such as the boot flag?

I am amazed that the USB boot-stick has the .iso of Redhat 7.4, and it loads pretty well other than a couple errors. So the stick is perfectly readable. Then when the installation gets to the screen with the Installation Source and Destination, I can even help it find the .iso, but it can't continue, and errors out anyway. And it gives me options to automatically configure partitions and some other options, none of which look safe to do.
