So I'm thinking of buying either athlon x4 860k or 880k. And I don't know if my motherboard will support overclocking because if it won't i'll just buy the 880k with the higher clock speed.

My current cpu is the AMD A-8 5500
And the motherboard is Medion ms-7800

You also have to think about RAM since DDR4 is the standard now..but something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($68.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI - B250M PRO-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($61.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Crucial - 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($54.88 @ B&H)
Total: $185.86

It should help get you better results, and it's a nice starter pack into the modern age as well.

Mostly because it can be oc'ed to some really high speeds without having ridiculous temps. And my current gpu the rx 460 4gb version, from what i know is being currently bottlenecked by my cpu that's why i want to buy a new cpu (best for that board) by oc'ing it i would maybe reach the full potential of my card ( i think :I ).

Even when doing it with software instead of in the bios?

My friend, even if you could overclock (which you can't) you are not going to improve gameplay. These APUs are not designed for gaming, they are designed to handle light work. If you want to reach the full potential of your card, you may have to do a full overhaul.

What games are you playing and at what settings?

Well, I can play Forza horizon 3 at medium settings with stable 30 fps, Battlefield 1 stutters on every setting, Witcher 3 about 40-60fps on high settings, Watch dogs 2 is unplayable with a lot of stuttering, Ark: survival evolved medium settings 40 fps, Call of duty black ops 3 at stable 60 fps med-high settings, h1z1 is unplayable (heard its very cpu intensive) and that's about it.

I'm shocked that you are able to play Witcher 3 at high settings at all. BF1 is out of the question for you. You need a better CPU since it is more CPU bound. WD2 is not so CPU-bound, but it is GPU heavy, so it may not able to take advantage of your 460.

However, I think the next best step is to save up and do a complete overhaul. You need a better CPU to handle those games.

What would be the best budget motherboard and cpu to get as of right now? (100$-300$)

Thank you for spending your time to find those parts but isn't a dual core not supported in watch dogs 2 anymore?

Edit: Oh nvm It has 4 threads.

If that board has a PCI-E slot, I would try a graphics card first. A GTX 1050 should work, as long as the stock power supply is at least 300w, though I would still recommend changing it to something like a corsair CX450m. A new board may not work in your case, plus you would need a new copy of windows.

Already have a dedicated gpu (RX 460 Windforce 4GB) psu is 500w. So the only thing i want to upgrade right now is the cpu.
